The Record BelowThe record first. Then what I think.

What's next

This page exists so that what gets covered can be audited the same way sources are.

Choosing what to examine is the most consequential decision this publication makes, and it is the one with no neutral option. So the queue is published before the answers are known. If the selection is skewed, that is visible here rather than discoverable later.

What makes a subject eligible

  1. It is genuinely contested. People who are informed and arguing in good faith disagree, or a claim is circulating widely enough to matter.
  2. It can be stated as a specific question. Not a topic. A question that can be answered, or declared unanswerable, against evidence.
  3. Some record bears on it. Even thinly. Where no record exists at all, the piece is about that absence, and it says so up front.
  4. It recurs. Arguments that come back every cycle are worth more than arguments that are hot this week and gone next, because the record is most useful the next time the argument happens.

Nominate a subject

Send it to [email protected] with a subject line starting QUEUE. Tell us the question, not just the topic, and where you think the record lives.

Nominations are logged publicly whether or not they are taken up, including the ones we decline. Declining is itself a selection decision and it belongs on the record.
